Inspiring Us This Week: NWA Food Bank

We are “Inspired By” the work being done at the NWA Food Bank, one of our partner agencies, who work around the clock to try and prevent as much of our community from having to ask those questions as possible. The NWA Food Bank is dedicated to changing the statistics of food insecurity in Northwest Arkansas- a goal that especially important for so many families during the holiday season.

Statistics show that in Northwest Arkansas alone more than 1 in 4 people suffer from food insecurity with 38% of the population served being children under the age of 18. To paint a picture, the number of individuals served by the NWA Food Bank in a year would fill Razorback stadium 10.6 times! “I know once my children eat the food that I get from the food bank, they will go to school prepared for the next day,” says Tina “And that’s what matters.”

All Northwest Arkansas Food Bank clients are provided with weekly counseling and advocacy to hel develop goal plans that will lead them to living independently! Last year the NWA Food Bank provided 347 hours of mental health services and 261 advocacy meetings. An average of 25 people are fed per meal at the Food Bank and provided education, financial and medical support to 56 women and children.

$5 a week ($260 a year) will provide:

 25 meals or 1300 meals to children on the weekends, through school breaks and holidays.

$10 a week ($520 a year) will provide:

 50 meals or 2600 meals to children on the weekends, through school breaks and holidays.

$20 a week ($1,040 a year) will provide:

100 meals or 5200 meals to children on the weekends, through school breaks and holidays.
