Lowell, ARK. – United Way of Northwest Arkansas is pleased to announce that Shawn Walker has been named as the organization’s Acting President and Chief Professional Officer by the Board of Directors.
Walker stepped down from the Board to take this position after six years of serving in several officer positions including a two year stint as Board Chairman. Walker is stepping in on an interim basis to fill the President role following the retirement of the former President, Jill Darling. A nationwide search is underway for a permanent replacement.
“I’m excited to join the team at United Way as we continue to shift our primary focus toward the key issue of children living in poverty in Northwest Arkansas”, said Walker upon accepting the interim President role. Danny Funkhouser, current Board Chairman for United Way of Northwest Arkansas, said “Shawn is a dynamic leader and was instrumental in leading the United Way toward the shift of children living in poverty issue during his time as Board Chairman. We’re fortunate and grateful to have someone of his capabilities and skill set available to lead the United Way organization during this time of transition”.
In his professional career, Walker has worked for several Fortune 500 companies including Unilever, Procter & Gamble, and most recently Tyson Foods, where he served in a Senior Vice President role for 9 years running the retail frozen prepared foods business. He retired from Tyson in 2012 and has recently been running his own consulting and investing business while also advising local startup businesses in Northwest Arkansas.
Walker’s wife, Julie, retired from Procter & Gamble in September and is now the President of IN Marketing Services in Rogers. Walker and his wife reside in Fayetteville with their four sons.
