Poverty Simulation

Bentonville, AR – On Tuesday, April 14, United Way of Northwest Arkansas collaborated with Northwest Arkansas Community College to put on a poverty simulation. 85 community members attended the simulation. Participants in the simulation were given a role in a family and then went through a typical month of a family living in poverty.

Live United Day

Northwest Arkansas – On Wednesday, April 15, United Way of Northwest Arkansas hosted their annual Live United Day, sponsored by Synchrony Financial. The largest volunteer day of the year, this event brought together local nonprofit agencies and volunteer groups to complete projects such as gardening, spring cleaning, and trash pick-up. Groups from companies such as Walmart, Harps, J.B. Hunt, and the presenting sponsor Synchrony Financial participated in the event, totaling in 636 volunteers across Northwest Arkansas. These volunteers completed 2,937 volunteer hours which equates to $67,756.59 (according to the national average of volunteer time value).

Underwareness at the Warehouse

Bentonville, AR – On Friday, April 17, volunteers came together at United Way of Northwest Arkansas’s Gifts in Kind Warehouse to put together hygiene kits to distribute in the community. Over 200 volunteers came together to create 4,800 hygiene kits in one day. These volunteers worked for a combined total of 444 hours which equales $ 10,243.08. This project, along with nine other United Ways, was sponsored by Depends to promote volunteering as part of a healthy, active, and independent life throughout an individual’s life.
