United Way of Northwest Arkansas in partnership with Walmart, and mobilized by Coca-Cola, collected school supplies during Fill the Bus on July 22-23. The event was a success again this year, working to remove a barrier of education for thousands of school-aged children in Benton, Madison, McDonald and Washington counties.
The Fill the Bus program is an initiative that helps to create a pathway out of poverty for children in Northwest Arkansas by supporting children in our community, helping them start school with confidence and gives them the literal tools they need to succeed! Volunteers came out to bare the summer heat to encourage the community to donate to a cause bigger then themselves, and saw just how generous the hearts in our community are to help out children in need. Each of the ten buses across Northwest Arkansas (and Pineville, Missouri) stationed at local Walmart Supercenters were blown away by support.
Supply counts from Fill The Bus weekend are very encouraging, and we still have supplies coming in from company drives across NWA who hosted their own school supply drives!
